Frequently Asked Questions about Relationship Counseling in Virginia

If you’re feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or seeking clarity in any area of your life, therapy can be a powerful tool. I offer a free consultation to help you determine if we’re the right fit.

This is your therapy, and you are in control of the process. While I’ll want to understand your experiences, you always have the right to set boundaries. In fact, learning to recognize and communicate your limits is an essential skill we can develop in therapy together.
-
The honest answer is that therapy is going to be comfortably uncomfortable. Many people feel nervous before the first session but often experience relief once we begin. Therapy is a space where you can breathe, reflect, and feel heard. While exploring difficult emotions can be challenging, you won’t have to face them alone - we will go at your pace, ensuring you feel supported throughout the process.
-
Finding the right therapist is important, and I encourage open communication about what’s working for you. If we’re not the right fit, I’m happy to adjust where possible or help with referrals. Sometimes, discomfort with a therapist can bring insight into deeper patterns worth exploring, but you should always trust your instincts in choosing the right support.

I appreciate this question because I asked myself the same thing when I chose to pursue my career in a different cultural context. My background has given me a deep appreciation for cultural differences, and I work to create an open, respectful space where your unique experiences are understood and valued. If cultural concerns are part of your therapeutic journey, we can explore them together in a way that feels safe and supportive. I have experience working with people from diverse backgrounds (including India, Sudan, Pakistan, Bulgaria, Mexico, Afghanistan, Japan, China, and Cambodia) and have found that our differences not only don’t stand in the way but actually open doors to a much wider perspective that wouldn’t be available otherwise.

I provide virtual therapy sessions, allowing you to access support from the comfort of your own space. Even though I had reservations about this mode of working, my experience has shown that virtual therapy can be equally deep and transformative. I provide therapy through a HIPAA-compliant platform designed to ensure privacy and security for online therapy sessions. No downloads are required - just click the secure link I provide to join our session.
-
I am in-network with CareFirst (which includes most Blue Cross Blue Shield plans). If you have other insurance, I can provide documentation for out-of-network reimbursement.

My rates vary depending on session length and format. Check my fees here, and feel free to reach out, and I’ll provide details on pricing and payment options.

As an experiential therapist, my goal is for you to learn from experience right away during our sessions. This allows for deep and lasting change. Some people benefit from having a task and a sense of continuation between sessions, while others need to learn how to take a break and allow life to happen without needing to control it and work on it all the time. We tailor your experience specifically for your needs and to ensure best results.

My clients have shared big lists of benefits they have gained during therapy with me. Here are some examples - less anxious, more in control of emotions and behaviors, less triggered by previoiusly stressful situations, more calm and clarity, better self-esteem, better ability to navigate life-challenges, better ability to set boundaries, better ability to take time for self-care, not feeling stuck anymore, improved relationships with partners, parents, children, and friends, and more peace with the past. Overall, toward the end of therapy, my clients report experiencing a new level of freedom and ability to enjoy life.
